What Makes dirty DAHG so Dirty?

We love to play underground!

No, the Dirty DAHG studio isn’t set up in an underground basement – we love to play with underground music!

What is Underground Music Well, to put it as simply as possible, underground music would be referring to any music that lives outside of the popular mainstream. Any genre or style of music can be considered “underground”  so the label is generally referring to a lack of corporate or high cost marketing. But this should be coupled with the idea that being “underground” is also a philosophy or a core intention to maintain complete artistic freedom of expression. It’s a belief in the purity of music for the sake of art and expression rather than a way to just make money.

Who can you find playing underground music and events?

Artists playing in the underground scene are usually there for one of two reasons. Reason number one is more than likely to find a way to break into the mainstream market. Unfortunately, the reality is that the big deal recording labels only give out contracts to artists that have already gathered a large following. That means an expensive, motivated, and hardcore “boots on the ground” approach for anyone hoping to host the VMAs one day – and this tends to be a largely disappointing endeavor. Honestly, most of these individuals don’t last for more than a few years making music. The industry is highly saturated and a person could spend their whole life savings trying to become well enough known to get noticed in the music industry.

But that leads us to the other type of artists in the underground, and these people are here by choice. These are the artists that value artistic expression and the freedom to create their art more than their ability to make money with the music. For this second type of artist, there are no limits to what they can express. The underground music realm is their playground and a way to release whatever needs to be shared. This also means that some really amazing and unique artistry can be found where not many people are listening.

How DDP Came to Be

Realizing how much beauty and wonder there is in this area where few dare to search anymore is what spawned the beginnings of Dirty DAHG Productions. Gone, it seems, are the days of talent scouts traveling the US and sitting in dimly lit bars and venues to see who the new breakout talents are. Nowadays, with social media, anyone can get themselves heard, but it’s an algorithm and funding game. Pair that with the desire of people to experience something real, raw, and sometimes spontaneous and that is what we try to bring to the table.

It was apparent that it has become increasingly difficult for artists with original music to have space and freedom for publicly performing their own music. Bar and venue owners lean toward booking cover bands and DJ’s more than they showcase original music anymore. So Dirty DAHG sought to remedy this by creating opportunities for original artistry to be showcased.

Do you want to play with us?

It’s pretty easy to get involved! In fact, the easiest way is to simply attend our Dirty DAHG events. Even if there’s nothing announced yet, you can bet something fun is brewing!

For artists with original music or even talented cover musicians, DDP can help get you booked. We offer services on a budget for those wanting some representation or a boost in exposure.

For anyone wanting to put on a fun event with a casual atmosphere built for making memories, contact us about what we can do to elevate your gathering! Whether you are looking for a DJ’d event, with or without karaoke, or a live band of a certain genre – you can be a part of the process by hosting an opportunity for music!

Other ways to help include interacting and following us on social media, keeping us in mind when you hear an amazing new talent or to spread the word when someone needs music for their project. We also have some pretty sweet merch! All money from sales is kept local and goes to support the business as well as the Dirty DAHG team.

The greatest way to play with the DAHGs will always be in person, though. It would be fantastic to have anyone wanting a good time with good people to come out to all of our events. This is because the greatest part of what we do is meeting and spending time with so many great people.

Next time a DDP gathering gets dropped into the per view, be sure to drop in to the party! No underground party is complete without people to play.
