It’s our second week of discussion, and this time there’s even more direction and guidance for anyone looking to give their body the right balance of building blocks to create a healthy body!
Show Notes ~
0:33 – Last week we had a focus on calcium, but this week Jodi spoke about the balance of minerals. Apparently, balance really is key! But how can we know what mineral proportions are the right balance for our bodies? Well, hair analysis could help with that!
“Those are a lot of things. But, you know what? The biggest deal is, it has to be in the right proportion too, and that is what is so great about hair analysis.” – Jodi Harris (1:44)
2:50 – Magnesium is the next essential mineral in the limelight. Who knew magnesium was responsible for SO MUCH? Jodi did, and she tells us all about it and why so many people seem to have a lack of magnesium within their bodies. Whoa! Unfortunately, not having enough magnesium could wreak it’s own style of havoc on the body, and it’s not as uncommon as you may think.
“Standard blood tests are usually not as effective in detecting a magnesium deficiency. Actually, the red blood cell tests are more accurate, and then of course hair analysis is another way to observe all of these deficiencies and imbalances.” – Jodi Harris (4:57)
5:15 – Mineral levels aren’t the only information to come back from a hair analysis! It also gives guidance for how to tackle the issues caused from the imbalances. Which brings us straight back to what happens to the human body when there is a magnesium deficiency. Spoiler Alert – There are a lot of negative possible side effects! So, naturally speaking, everyone should be taking magnesium daily. Just make sure it’s chelated!
“We should be taking about 500-1000 mg. But – if it’s not in the chelated form, it can cause diarrhea and that’s another sign; constipation. Magnesium is a deficiency.”- Jodi Harris (7:10)
8:00 – Be sure to listen as Jodi shares the guidelines to balance calcium and magnesium for different common ailments!
9:23 – We talk about different ways to get magnesium into the body that don’t cause diarrhea. There are many different options that don’t include poorly timed trips to the bathroom.
“But there’s just different ways for different reasons; I think I’ll just leave it at that.” – Jodi Harris (10:43)
10:49 – Balance is the common theme this week, it seems. Naturally, minerals are found in fresh fruits and vegetables in a combination – never alone. Our bodies need their own combinations of minerals. Each one deserves their own highlight, but zinc takes the stage next. FYI for the fellas, apparently this mineral is especially important for you… under the right circumstances.
“But I learned something new, I always learn something because I always do a little extra research before I plan my little talks here. You should not take zinc if you have cancer, MS, or a fever… But I just thought I’d throw that out because that was something that a lot of people don’t talk about.” – Jodi Harris (12:46)
13:35 – Aaw, the 80s… I’m sure this decade taught people quite a lot. For Jodi, one thing fads of the 80s taught her is what her favorite herb is. Horsetail grass became a favorite because of the high amounts of silica. There are incredible things silica does for the bones and body!
Quick tips – pick up a copy of Silica: The Forgotten Nutrient by Klaus Kaufman and then check out herbal blends by Hanna’s Herb Shop!
18:00 – For blood sugar levels, chromium is essential! Unfortunately, this is another one that most people are deficient in for multiple reasons. If you’re curious, Jodi talks about studies that show a real decline in chromium levels in food, soil, and people. The best way to get nutrients into the body from our diets is by eating whole foods. Many places, that can be expensive though, so it’s always good to know where to get fresh local produce!
(Back to Nature in Sturgis has THE BEST prices for fresh, organic fruits and vegetables in the Black Hills!)
21:07 – Do you pump iron? Not in the gym, but through your veins – You see, iron is another essential building block mineral to get in your body’s balance. But not every source of iron will get the job done. In fact, some types of iron may actually cause harm! But, there are a few sure-fire ways to get this dynamite ingredient into your diet.
“If it’s gonna have side effects that are harmful, people need to know about it. Right?” – Jodi Harris (24:15)
This is a lot of information to digest! Luckily, this audio will be up and ready for you whenever you need it. In case you missed last week’s episode, be sure to check out Naturally Speaking ep. 1 – Building the Bones!
